  • Our PC plant in Decatur has been recognized by the National Safety Council, Manufacture Alabama, and the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations for its stellar safety record. Since groundbreaking in 2001, the facility has never experienced a losttime workplace injury.

  • Our Green River facility uses natural gas and innovative technologies such as upgraded precipitators and improved burners, resulting in the cleanest operation in the history of our industry.

  • Our Big Island Mine and Refinery is a four-time winner of the US Department of Labor Sentinels of Safety award for being the country’s safest underground mine.

  • Our mine and surface rescue teams are consistently among the best in the country, with five national mine rescue and two international surface rescue championships.

  • Every OCI employee, from the plants in Green River & Decatur to our corporate headquarters in Marietta, is empowered to modify any operation that poses a potential threat to themselves, their fellow workers, the surrounding community, or the environment.

  • All OCI employees receive ongoing training and wellness programs to further enhance their health and safety.

OCI Wyoming's award-winning mine and surface rescue teams

Our mine and surface rescue teams have earned a reputation as one of the best in the industry. In order to maintain that standard of performance, our teams practice and compete in various drills throughout the year.

We’re very proud to have been a four-time recipient of the prestigious Department of Labor Sentinels of Safety Award (1971, 1988, 1995 and 1997), given yearly for the safest underground mine in the United States. Other safety accomplishments include:

  • Wyoming State Mine Inspectors Safety Award – OCI has been in the Top Three for 28 of the last 35 years.
  • National Safety Council Metal/Non-Metal Mining Safety Award – OCI has won this award six times.
  • Award Winning Rescue Teams:
    National Mine Rescue Champions - 1975, 1982, 1986, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004
    Safety Olympiad Champions (Surface Rescue) - 1997, 1998
    International Champions (Surface Rescue) - 1994, 1995
    Numerous Regional Championships
  • Kansas City Shoot Out Mine Rescue Contest, May 2003 — OCI's White Mine Rescue Team was the first place winner.
  • One (1) Million Safe Man Hours - 1976, 1980, 1986, 1991, 1992, 1999
  • Two (2) Million Safe Man Hours - 1984 and 1996
  • Three (3) Million Safe Man Hours - 1982
 

Our PC Plant in Decatur, Alabama has been an industry leader with a stellar safety record.

We are proud of the stellar safety record of our Sodium percarbonate Plant in Decatur, AL. In addition to being honored with the National Safety Council's 2006 Industry Leader Award, Decatur also received the Safety Leadership Award and the Perfect Record Award at the National Safety Council National Awards Banquet held in Chicago in October, 2007. Some additional safety milestones achieved by the Decatur team:

  • Alabama Department of Industrial Relations Workplace Safety Award of Superior Achievement – 2004 and 2005
  • Alabama Department of Industrial Relations Workplace Safety Award of Excellence – 2004
  • Manufacture Alabama (ranked top three in the state for our division and classification) for Safety Achievement Award – 2004, 2005, & 2006
  • National Safety Council five (5) Year Safety Leadership Award for January 2001 – December 2006
  • National Safety Council Excellence Achievement Award – 2006
  • National Safety Council Perfect Record Award January 2001 – December 2006
  • National Safety Council Industry Leader Award – 2006
  • 72 months without lost time accident (since ground breaking, the facility has never experienced a workplace injury resulting in lost time)
  • 35 months without a recordable accident as of 1/22/07
