The ancient Egyptians knew the value of soda ash. They used it to make glass over five millennia ago. Known chemically as sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), soda ash was first recovered from dry desert basin lakes. More recently, the ammonia-soda process was used to refine raw soda ash.
Today, we use a much more environmentally friendly and efficient process: refining the rich, pure trona deposits in Wyoming's Green River Basin. Not only are these deposits the world's largest and most accessible, they're also the world's purest, with virtually no chlorides and sulfates. Our refining process employs natural settling and filtration techniques, producing soda ash of uncommon purity. |
